This week was another quality week of training. A hard track session on Tuesday was the highlight of the week, with a quality long run on Thursday, fast 200s on Friday, and a 5k win on Sunday! I coped the week of training from my Athleticore.com log below. The only run I didn’t include was a nice shakeout in the evening on Sunday, which I’ll be headed out on shortly to close out a little over 90 miles for the week. I was lucky to have a bunch of good friends to workout with this week and made running a lot of fun. One of my favorite runs of the week was Saturday’s 5 miler where I jogged cool-down with one of my high school kids I coach. He’s dropped his PR this season from 5:09 last year, to 5:03 in his first race, to 5:00 in a time trial, to 4:56, and now down to 4:53! That’s a steady progression!!
I closed out the week with a 5k win at the Frank Shorter Race 4 Kid’s Health in Broomfield Colorado. This was a really cool event that is all about supporting healthy learning paths. Check out the website and like their facebook page. This is one of those events that make you love what the running community is all about – health and wellness! Starting at early childhood is so important and these folks are doing a great thing by putting on this event! As a competitor, the race was challenging with a significant 1k uphill to start, followed by a ton of turns. However, the course was marked very well and it made the race a lot of fun! The coolest part of the race, finishing indoors!
The race also included a 1k run and diaper dash. In addition to supporting young runners, Frank Shorter was there promoting the event. When you have an Olympic Gold Medalist giving out the awards and announcing the race, you have an incredible event! Thank you to the race staff, volunteers, the race expo booths, and all of the sponsors for putting together an event that helps kids learn healthy habits, from nutrition to athletics to even brushing your teeth and planting gardens!
